Toshiba Mobile Devices, one of Japan’s biggest names in the technology industry, has announced the development of a new touchscreen-enabled display panel. Generally, the touchscreen systems you see in today’s cars (or even cell phones for that matter), are essentially a standalone touchscreen panel mounted on top of a conventional, low-reflection TFT display panel. Toshiba’s new panel however, integrates the touchscreen layer within the display panel itself. The result is a new panel that is as thin as one millimetre, very light as compared to its conventional counterparts and boasts of a reflection ratio that is reduced by ten percent. Thanks to the integration, new panel is also lighter on energy usage, therefore being a ‘greener’ device too.
The touchscreen is capacitive, which means it has the potential to be as smooth and sensitive as your favourite iPhone. When used in cars, the new panel will measure 7.0-inches, making it an ideal choice for most upcoming navigation and infotainment systems. Toshiba will showcase the new panels and its various applications at the SID 2011 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition to be held from May 17 to May 19, 2011 in Los Angeles, Califfornia, USA.
