New Zealand innings

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Tom Latham c Azhar Ali b Shaheen Afridi 4 3 1 0 133.33
0.3
Shaheen Afridi to Tom Latham, OUT! CAUGHT! Afridi strikes and Latham has to depart! Length and around off, Latham is still not sure whether to play off the front foot or the back foot as he hangs his bat out. The ball takes the outside edge and flies towards the third slip fielder. Azhar Ali there takes it on the second attempt and New Zealand have been dealt a blow early on in the innings.
Tom Blundell c Yasir Shah b Shaheen Afridi 5 29 0 0 17.24
10.2
Shaheen Afridi to Tom Blundell, OUT! CAUGHT! Afridi bags a second one. He has been enjoying New Zealand conditions. New Zealand lose both their openers. Full and around off, inviting the batsman to go for the drive. Blundell obliges as he goes for the drive with no footwork and hard hands. He though could manage just to get a thickish outside edge that goes low towards Yasir Shah in the slips. Shah does well to go low and gobble the catch.
Kane Williamson (C) c Haris Sohail b Yasir Shah 129 297 12 1 43.43
104.3
Yasir Shah to Kane Williamson, OUT! CAUGHT! It required a brilliant piece of fielding to remove Williamson! Brilliant stuff from Yasir Shah there, he delivers when his team needed it the most. A leg break tossed up around off, Kane comes on the front foot and looks to defend it but manages an outside edge in the process. The ball flies towards the lone slip there. Haris Sohail manning that position goes low to his right and gets his right hand out as the ball sticks in his palms. The Pakistan players rejoice it as the umpire converge and take it upstairs to check whether it is a clean catch or not. The soft signal being not out, the replays roll in and there was enough conclusive evidence to rule Kane Williamson out and the giant screen does flash out. Nevertheless, Williamson did his job for his team as he played a perfect captain's knock.
Ross Taylor c Mohammad Rizwan b Shaheen Afridi 70 151 10 1 46.36
56.5
Shaheen Afridi to Ross Taylor, OUT! CAUGHT! Finally a wicket against the run of play! It is that man Shaheen Afridi who gets the breakthrough as he takes his third of the innings. Bowls a length ball angled across the right-hander, Taylor prods forward and looks to defend it. The ball just about manages to catch the shoulder of the bat and go behind to the keeper. Rizwan there takes the catch and appeals as Taylor takes a long walk back.
Henry Nicholls c Shan Masood b Naseem Shah 56 137 5 0 40.88
100.1
Naseem Shah to Henry Nicholls, OUT! CAUGHT! The short refreshment break does wonders for Pakistan. They were looking hapless with both Kane and Henry going about their business but the short drinks break has indeed brought some respite to the heat they were facing. Naseem finally gets into the wickets column. He goes short and around off, Henry Nicholls who is glued to the crease goes for the pull but fails to get it off the middle of the bat. He though takes his eyes off while playing and gets it off the glove. It lobs towards slips as the fielder takes it with ease. Replays later show that Nicholls was a bit unlucky there to not take the review. If he would have taken it then he could have been out there playing with his skipper as that ball came off his forearm and not the glove.
BJ Watling (W) c Yasir Shah b Shaheen Afridi 73 145 8 0 50.34
151.2
Shaheen Afridi to BJ Watling, OUT! CAUGHT! An excellent knock from Watling comes to an end! Brilliant from Yasir Shah at gully. Short and angled across Watling, BJ looks to play the ramp shot over the slip cordon but fails to get the direction right as the ball flies to the gully region. Yasir Shah there leaps to his left and takes the catch. Watling departs after a well made 73 runs.
Mitchell Santner c Mohammad Rizwan b Faheem Ashraf 19 43 2 1 44.19
119.2
Faheem Ashraf to Mitchell Santner, OUT! CAUGHT! FAHEEM ASHRAF STRIKES! Mitchell Santner heads back to the pavillion. Length ball outside off, Santner looks to cut it away from his body but can only get a thick outside edge. The ball flies to the wicket-keeper where Mohammad Rizwan accepts it gleefully. Six down are New Zealand.
Kyle Jamieson c Mohammad Rizwan b Mohammad Abbas 32 69 1 1 46.38
141.2
Mohammad Abbas to Kyle Jamieson, OUT! CAUGHT! Finally Pakistan breakthrough! Abbas finally has a wicket to show for his brilliant bowling effort. He bowls one on a length and keeps it outside off, Jamieson is sucked into the shot as he goes chasing for the ball. He though manages to get an outside edge that is gobbled up by the keeper without any fuss. Can Pakistan wrap it up quickly here?
Tim Southee b Yasir Shah 0 9 0 0 0
144.1
Yasir Shah to Tim Southee, OUT! CLEANED UP! Southee departs for a duck! What a start to the session for Pakistan. Slower and flatter around off, Southee back off while playing the shot. He though misses it but the ball does not miss its target as it goes and crashes into the middle pole.
Neil Wagner c Shan Masood b Yasir Shah 19 36 2 0 52.78
154.6
Yasir Shah to Neil Wagner, OUT! CAUGHT! Yasir Shah does well to end the New Zealand innings finally! He tosses one up around off, Wagner lines up to play the slog over the cow corner fence. He though ends up getting a top edge that lobs high in the air towards mid-wicket. The keeper runs to that direction but Shan Masood at mid-wicket calls and takes the catch in the end. Yasir gets his third wicket. NEW ZEALAND BOWLED OUT FOR 431!

Pakistan innings

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Shan Masood c BJ Watling b Kyle Jamieson 10 42 0 0 23.81
15.3
Kyle Jamieson to Shan Masood, OUT! CAUGHT! Strangled down the leg side! Masood departs! Length and down the leg side, Masood looks to tuck it fine towards fine leg but he manages to get an edge. Watling behind the sticks does the formalities. Pakistan dealt a blow close to the end of day's play.
Abid Ali b Kyle Jamieson 25 104 3 0 24.04
32.2
Kyle Jamieson to Abid Ali, OUT! CLEANED UP! Lovely piece of bowling. Bowls a fuller length ball around off, a hint of inward movement as Ali is stranded on the back foot. He looks to block it out but the ball does not come in as Ali expected. It though comes just enough to hit the top of off stump. Abid Ali's resistance finally comes to an end. New Zealand's new pace sensation Jamieson strikes once again.
Mohammad Abbas c Ross Taylor b Trent Boult 5 55 1 0 9.09
33.6
Trent Boult to Mohammad Abbas, OUT! CAUGHT! Boult finally has his man. The nightwatchman departs after some resistance. Boult lands one around off and gets it to shape away from the right hander. Abbas looks to defend it but ends up getting a thick outside edge which flies at a good height towards first slip where Ross Taylor takes the simplest of the catch.
Azhar Ali c BJ Watling b Tim Southee 5 34 0 0 14.71
42.2
Tim Southee to Azhar Ali, OUT! CAUGHT! Southee gets a wicket finally. Length ball angled across the off stump, Azhar Ali who is camping on the back foot looks to push it to the off side. He though gets it to play with an angled bat but fails to do so. The ball goes to the keeper where Watling collects it and goes up in an appeal. The umpire though is not interested. Kane Williamson signals 'T'. Let's see what the replays have to say. It is a legal delivery as the Ultra Edge comes on. It shows a little spike when the ball goes past the bat. The on-field call is overturned as Azhar Ali has to take the long walk back.
Haris Sohail c Henry Nicholls b Tim Southee 3 22 0 0 13.64
42.6
Tim Southee to Haris Sohail, OUT! CAUGHT! Pakistan suddenly falling apart here! With half the side gone and still 379 runs away from the New Zealand's score Pakistan are in deep waters. Southee gets his second wicket. Fuller and around off, Sohail looks to drive it away from the body as he pushes at it. He though fails to get it off the meat of the bat as the thick outside edge flies towards gully where Henry Nicholls does well to get low and pouch the catch.
Fawad Alam c BJ Watling b Neil Wagner 9 42 0 0 21.43
59.1
Neil Wagner to Fawad Alam, OUT! CAUGHT! Wagner peppering Alam with short deliveries does the trick! Another one falls for the visitors and things not going to plan for the Men in Green! On a shorter length and on middle, Alam looks to pull but misses. The ball, though, nicks the bat and goes towards Watling who takes a good catch. The players appeal loudly and the umpire obliges by raising his finger. Alam does not opt for the review and just walks off. Pakistan are in a spot of bother and will need something miraculous if they need to avoid the follow-on.
Mohammad Rizwan (C) (W) run out (Mitchell Santner) 71 142 8 0 50
88.6
Trent Boult to Faheem Ashraf, OUT! RUN OUT! A wicket against the run of play! Brilliant from Santner. Length on the pads, Ashraf flicks it towards mid-wicket and gets off for a run. Rizwan though calls him back for the second as Mitchell Santner in the deep gets to the ball and releases a perfect throw towards the non-striker's end. He hits the bull's eye and New Zealand start celebrating as the umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in and it shows that Rizwan who is running to the danger end is short of his ground despite putting a desparate dive. This could be the opening that New Zealand wanted.
Faheem Ashraf c BJ Watling b Kyle Jamieson 91 134 15 1 67.91
102.2
Kyle Jamieson to Faheem Ashraf, OUT! CAUGHT! It was not meant to be for him but he should be proud off the innings that he has played! He knew that the end was near and was looking to get his hundred but he falls in the process. On a length around off, Ashraf looks to have a poke at this but can only induce an outside edge, which goes towards Watling and he does not drop these chances. PAKISTAN END THEIR FIRST INNINGS ON 239. TRAILING BY 192 RUNS!
Yasir Shah b Trent Boult 4 7 1 0 57.14
90.6
Trent Boult to Yasir Shah, OUT! CASTLED! Perfect delivery from the left-armer and this was too good for Yasir Shah to deal with! Pakistan lose their 8th wicket and it seems that they will might lose all their wickets before the end of play. A good length ball on off, nipping into the right-hander, Yasir looks to fend it away but misses and the ball goes through his defense and goes onto rattle the stumps behind him.
Shaheen Afridi c Tom Latham b Neil Wagner 6 30 0 0 20
101.3
Neil Wagner to Shaheen Afridi, OUT! CAUGHT! WAGNER SETS THE TRAP AND COMPLETES THE JOB! He keeps peppering Afridi with short stuff and finally has his man. This one is again on the shorter side and on leg, Afridi looks to evade it by pushing at it but the ball takes the glove and lobs to short leg who takes the catch.

Naseem bowls a short one on middle, Latham pulls it. It goes towards Abid Ali at deep square leg who makes no mistake. New Zealand lead by 331 runs.
Tom Blundell b Mohammad Abbas 64 107 7 0 59.81
32.4
Mohammad Abbas to Tom Blundell, OUT! TIMBER! Abbas gets the breakthrough! Blundell in search of quick runs perishes but it ends a very good innings from the opener. But he will be disappointed to not continue on. Abbas bowls a good length ball on middle and leg, Blundell dances down the track and then looks to heave it away but misses and the ball goes onto hit the stumps. The lead is 303.

Naseem Shah to Kane Williamson, OUT! CAUGHT! The short ball plan has worked! Williamson goes and Naseem gets his second. 43.6
Naseem Shah to BJ Watling, OUT! RUN OUT! Watling was well short of his crease and New Zealand lose another. Good length ball on the pads, Watling flicks it to fine leg and wants a second. The fielder comes across, collects and throws it to the keeper. Rizwan whips the bails off. The third umpire is called for and the replays show that Watling's dive had not saved him. Tim Southee to Shan Masood, OUT! CAUGHT! Southee strikes! Pakistan in all sorts of trouble now! Brilliant stuff from New Zealand. Williamson is delighted. The Kiwi fans are delighted. Pakistan are 2-down with no runs on the board. Good length ball on off, Masood looks to defend but it takes the outside edge and it goes towards first slip where Ross Taylor takes a comfortable catch.
Abid Ali c BJ Watling b Trent Boult 0 2 0 0 0
1.2
Trent Boult to Abid Ali, OUT! CAUGHT! What a start from Boult! Just the start they needed! What a delivery from Trent Boult! Brilliant piece of bowling. Short ball around off, Abid looks to hop and defend but it takes the gloves and goes to the right of Watling. Boult bowls a good length ball outside off, moving away after pitching. Azhar looks to push at it but does not move his feet at all. It takes the outside edge and it goes towards Watling who takes a simple catch. Pakistan need 298 runs.
Haris Sohail c Mitchell Santner b Tim Southee 9 46 0 0 19.57
17.5
Tim Southee to Haris Sohail, OUT! CAUGHT! 300 Test wickets for Southee! Brilliant from the Kiwi! He is just the third Kiwi bowler to reach the feat! Southee has just been a terrific performer with the ball and he rightly deserves this achievement. Full ball outside off, Sohail looks to drive but is early into the shot. It goes uppishly towards cover where Mitchell Santner lunges forward and takes a good catch. Pakistan need 336 more.
Fawad Alam c BJ Watling b Neil Wagner 102 269 14 0 37.92
105.6
Neil Wagner to Fawad Alam, OUT! TAKEN DOWN THE LEG SIDE! Wagner is the man who gets the big wicket. Massive, massive wicket. Wagner bangs it short again and this one is down the leg side. With all the close-in fielders in the sight, Fawad looks to slams it down the leg side. He goes for the pull but ends up gloving it behind. Watling gobbles the chance to his right. The marathon knock from Fawad is over. Can term it as a soft dismissal but you got to give it to Wagner. The Kiwi workhorse just kept banging it short. Alam resisted and resisted, almost entire Day 5. But this time around, he went for the shot, maybe to push the fielders back but he pays the price. He walks off with standing ovation from the crowd. A gritty knock comes to an end and New Zealand are in with a big chance now. 22 overs left in the day for them to remove the remaining 4.
Mohammad Rizwan (C) (W) lbw b Kyle Jamieson 60 191 6 0 31.41
102.5
Kyle Jamieson to Mohammad Rizwan, OUT! LBW! All reds it is and Mohammad Rizwan has to go! End of a wonderful knock from the skipper. New Zealand desperately needed that wicket and they will feel that they have an opening in this game. Can they win this from here? Jamieson bowls a good length ball on middle, Rizwan looks to flick but misses and gets rapped on the pads. New Zealand put up a huge shout for LBW but nothing from the umpire. The Kiwis take the review. The Ultra Edge shows no bat while the Ball Tracker shows all reds. The Kiwis are ecstatic. Pakistan need 133 in 25.1 overs.
Faheem Ashraf c BJ Watling b Neil Wagner 19 28 4 0 67.86
111.5
Neil Wagner to Faheem Ashraf, OUT! CAUGHT! Wagner has the last laugh! Brilliant delivery from Neil Wagner! He is pumped up! New Zealand just two wickets away from a victory. What a Test match we have had. Wagner bowls a full ball outside off, Ashraf looks to defend but the ball moves away. It takes the outside edge and goes to Watling who makes no mistake. Pakistan 8 down.
Yasir Shah c Tim Southee b Kyle Jamieson 0 5 0 0 0
108.3
Kyle Jamieson to Yasir Shah, OUT! CAUGHT! New Zealand are on fire in the last few overs! Yasir Shah walks off in disappointment. Kyle Jamieson is elated and New Zealand are just three wickets away from a victory.  The last few overs have been good for the Kiwis. Jamieson runs in and bowls a short one around off, Yasir Shah has a poke at it. It takes the outside edge and goes towards gully where Tim Southee takes the catch. Pakistan have 19.4 overs to survive in the day.
Mohammad Abbas lbw b Mitchell Santner 1 26 0 0 3.85
115.4
Mitchell Santner to Mohammad Abbas, OUT! LBW! Umpire's call it and Pakistan have lost their 9th wicket. This looked plumb but Abbas has to go for the review. Inspired bowling change from Williamson and Santner strikes immediately. Quicker ball on middle and off. Abbas looks to defend but misses and gets hit on the pads. New Zealand appeal and up goes the finger. Abbas reviews. There is nothing on Ultra Edge while the Ball Tracker shows that it is umpire's call on impact. The Kiwis are one wicket away.

Mitchell Santner to Naseem Shah, OUT! CAUGHT! Mitchell Santner has done it! What a catch to end it off as well. Tossed up on off, Naseem looks to push but he is early into the shot. It goes over Santner who takes it with his left hand while in the air. What scenes. The Kiwi players are absolutely ecstatic. NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 101 RUNS.
