A bit of turn away from the blade and the slice flies towards sweeper cover where Chameera takes a good catch diving forward. Hales' long vigil has come to an end albeit in an awkward fashion.

D Shanaka to Compton, OUT! Second wicket of the over! Terrific bowling from Shanaka and England have lost 2 in 4 balls! Full and just outside off, 79.5 mph, Compton pushes hard at it, coming on the front foot, but the ball just moves away slightly, takes the outside edge and goes low to first slip. However, Lahiru Thirimanne does well to get low and takes the catch brilliantly! Compton takes a look at the place where the ball landed, then walks off. Perhaps Anderson would be watching it closely too. Double strike by Shanaka!

D Shanaka to Root, OUT! Edged and Root is gone! Well, this is a magical debut for Shanaka. First Cook, then Compton and now the golden boy, the local lad, the Yorkshireman, Joe Root. Full and outside off, perhaps slightly wide, 77.1 mph, Root looks to drive but only edges it behind to third slip! Kusal Mendis takes it easily and boy o boy, that is a dream wicket. What a spell. S Eranga to Vince, OUT! Edged and taken! Eranga strikes now! Full and outside off, 83.1 mph, Vince looks to drive this straight down the ground but the ball moves away a shade and goes off the outside edge straight to gully where Kusal Mendis takes his second catch! So Sri Lanka have struck quickly after the break. England are 70/4!

N Pradeep to Stokes, OUT! Soft dismissal and England have lost half their side! Full and outside off, 85 mph, Stokes looks to work it through the leg side but fails to keep it down. The bat turns in his hand and the ball goes off the inner half of the bat. It dips towards Mathews but the skipper takes it nicely, inches above the surface. Stokes walks back shaking his head as ENGLAND TOTTER TO 83/5!

D Chameera to Bairstow, OUT! BAIRSTOW DEPARTS! Good length on middle and leg, JB goes for the lofted stroke but mistimes it high towards mid on. Pradeep gleefully settles under the skier and takes it with ease. Ends an excellent knock under pressure from the local lad. Chameera has his third scalp.

D Chameera to Ali, OUT! CHAMEERA STRIKES! Fuller on middle and off, tails in sharply as Ali gets an inside edge that crashes into his pads and lobs up towards short leg where Kusal Mendis takes a comfortable catch. Ali is already walking and this is a good passage of play for the Lankans just before the lunch break.

D Chameera to Broad, OUT! CHOPPED ON! Broad's restlessness gets the better of him! This was on a length and well outside off, Broad goes for the expansive drive but with no footwork at all. Gets a thick inside edge that cannons on to the stumps. England are imploding all of a sudden and Bairstow is absolutely livid at the non-striker's end. Double strike from Chameera.

R Herath to Finn, OUT! HERATH WRAPS IT UP! Loopy on a length outside off, Finn gives charge to that one and has a wild swing at that one but misses it. Chandimal whips off the bails even as the Finn tries to drag his bat in. The extra bounce meant that Chandimal was a tad slow to effect the stumping and it is referred upstairs. Replay show that he has done a neat job and Finn is short. ENGLAND HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 298.

S Broad to Karunaratne, OUT! BROAD DRAWS FIRST BLOOD! Fuller and outside off, angled in and shapes away a touch after pitching. Karunaratne plays a loose drive at that one and gets a thin edge through to Bairstow who pouches it with ease. That's a duck for Karunaratne.

J Anderson to Silva, OUT! ANDERSON GETS INTO THE ACT! Good length outside off, the ball jags back in late with extra bounce as Silva pokes tamely at that one. The bounce forces a nick through to Bairstow who takes another comfortable catch. SL have been rattled early in the innings by England's fearsome new ball pair.

S Broad to Mendis, OUT! TOP BALL! Broad is on fire! Fuller and outside off, shapes away as Mendis pokes at that one. Gets a thick nick that flies through to Bairstow who is enjoying his time behind the stumps at the moment. England are all over the Lankans are the moment. This is high quality swing bowling from the hosts. A duck for Mendis as well.

Ben Stokes to Chandimal, OUT! STOKES STRIKES FIRST BALL! He was threatening since he started his spell before the break! Good length outside off, shaping away with steep bounce as Chandimal tamely pushes at it. Gets a thick outside edge that flies towards third slip where Vince takes a good catch to his right. What a start for England right after tea!

J Anderson to Mathews, OUT! ANDERSON GETS THE BIG WICKET! Full and around off, the inswinger darts back sharply to crash into Mathews' pads as he pushes tamely at that one. The lbw appeal is upheld almost immediately. The Lankan skipper has a chat with Thirimanne regarding the review but the latter's words probably convinces Mathews against it. The bowling change works immediately for England and it's a massive blow to SL.

S Broad to Thirimanne, OUT! OUT! Broad gets his fourth and Sri Lanka are in tatters! Good length angled in from around off, Thirimanne looks to play across the line and mistimes it towards short mid on. It's that man again, Steven Finn, who takes another low catch diving forward. He may not be taking wickets today but is certainly proving his worth as a fielder. Another top close-in catch. SL still 8 adrift of avoiding the follow on and the last wicket left.

J Anderson to Shanaka, OUT! ANDERSON HAS ANOTHER! Fuller and outside off, shaping away sharply as Shanaka has a weak poke at that one. Gets a nick that is pouched comfortably by Bairstow moving to his right. First ball duck on debut for Shanaka - not one to remember at all. He'll have some solace from his bowling performance though. J Anderson to R Herath, OUT! GONE THIS TIME! This was on the cards! Anderson goes wide of the crease and angles it in from just outside off, straightens off the deck and climbs on to Herath. Virtually unplayable ball that and the edge flies towards fourth slip where Stokes takes a sharp catch. Anderson gets his 4th and he is running through this Lankan batting line-up. SL still need 16 to avoid the follow on.

S Broad to Chameera, OUT! BRILLIANTLY TAKEN BY FINN! Full and outside off, Chameera cannot resist the drive but fails to keep the shot down. The ball travels quickly to short mid off where Finn takes a fine diving catch moving to his right. The umpires go upstairs to see if the catch is clean and no problems at all as Finn has taken it cleanly. Not always that you see a tall fast bowler taking a sharp close-in catch, Finn has done it. Just 2 wickets left with 9 more runs needed to avoid follow on.

J Anderson to Eranga, OUT! THERE'S THAT KILLER BALL! Not on the radar though but still gets his man! Full and sliding down the leg side, Eranga goes across to flick as the ball goes through to Bairstow who takes yet another match. The appeal for caught behind isn't given and Cook is quick to review it. Replays show that there was an inside edge on it and the Hot Spot confirms it as well. The decision is reversed and Eranga is given out. That's another 5-fer for Anderson - his 19th in Tests. It's also his first at Headingley. SL HAVE BEEN SHOT OUT FOR 91.

J Anderson to Karunaratne, OUT! Edged and gone! Anderson draws first blood! Superb bowling and got the reward! Hurls a length delivery and just outside off, with some bounce off the deck. Karunaratne gets back to defend but the ball takes the outside edge of the willow and flies back. Bairstow behind the stumps takes a simple regulation catch. England on a roll here and Anderson is all ecstatic.

J Anderson to Silva, OUT! Edged and taken! Anderson is having a great Test match! 7th wicket for him! Pitches it up and shapes it away from the batsman. Silva feels for that one and looks to drive. He ends up edging this one as the ball flies towards Cook at first slip but Bairstow dives to his right and takes a safe catch. Sri Lanka trail by 172 runs!

J Anderson to Mendis, OUT! Mendis chops it on! Anderson is on a fire, 3-fer for him! Hurls a short of a length delivery on off, with some bounce as well. Mendis hops to defend but gets a bottom edge and the ball goes onto hit the woodwork. Mendis was dropped thrice but couldn't do much. He walks back and Sri Lanka slip further having lost half their side. They still trail by 114 runs!

M Ali to Chandimal, OUT! Dragged on! Chandimal is facing first ball of the second session and walks back! Loopy delivery around off, turning in after pitching. Chandimal goes back to cut it with the turn but ends up getting a thick inside edge and the ball goes onto to hit the timber. What a start for England. Chandimal is dejected.

S Broad to Mathews, OUT! Bairstow takes his 8th catch of the match He is having a great time behind the stumps. On a good length and goes straight after pitching. Mathews lunges forward to defend but ends up getting an outside edge and handing Bairstow an easy catch. They go up in an appeal for a caught behind and the umpire raises his finger straightaway. Sri Lanka still trail by 114 runs!

Thirimanne gets forward to defend but gets a thick outside edge towards second slip where Root takes a regulation catch. Finn has his hands aloft and England are just 1 wicket away from a big win here.

Anderson to N Pradeep, OUT! Bowled 'em! It's all over for Sri Lanka! Anderson bags another 5-fer and he is elated. Full length delivery, swinging away after pitching. Pradeep looks to defend by backing away but the ball goes straight and he gets beaten by the pace there. The ball goes on to strike timber and Anderson jumps in the air in joy.
