New Delhi: Perceptions about education vary across the world, but in some countries, studies are so demanding that students are immersed in books from morning to night. In others, there’s the constant pressure of exams, while others face the challenge of choosing a career from a young age. In many countries, competitive exams are so challenging that years of hard work fall short. Furthermore, even after school, tuition, cram schools, and private coaching continue. Overall, the education systems in some countries test children not only in academics but also in patience, hard work, and mental strength.
1. South Korea: In South Korea, students stay in school all day and study at coaching institutes called hagwons until late at night. Admission to prestigious colleges involves extremely rigorous exams, putting immense pressure on students.
2. Japan: In Japan, students are also sent to coaching institutes and cram schools from an early age. High school and university entrance exams are so difficult that students struggle to achieve perfection in every subject.
3. China: China’s education system is known for its exam-based system. The Gaokao exam is considered one of the most difficult in the world, and students study for long hours to prepare for it.
4. Singapore: In Singapore, children as young as 12 years old are required to pass national exams, which determine their future careers, creating immense competition.
5. Finland: Although Finland is considered to have one of the best education systems in the world, the competition for admission to top universities and peer pressure challenge students here.
6. Russia: In Russia, children face the pressure of memorising chapters, discipline, and the national-level EGE exam.
7. India: In India, exams like the IIT-JEE and NEET determine the major life decisions of students, requiring rigorous preparation from a young age.
8. Hong Kong: In Hong Kong, frequent exams, rigorous curriculum, and the pressure of shadow coaching make children’s daily routines extremely challenging.
9. Switzerland: In Switzerland, students have to learn multiple languages and pass difficult exams.
10. USA: In the US, exams like the SAT, ACT, and AP exams, along with limited college seats, create intense competition among students.
