New Delhi: Britain is among the countries where higher education is extremely expensive. British universities are known for their high fees, providing not only quality education but also a degree that is valued worldwide. Living and food costs in Britain are also quite high. However, now pursuing a degree in Britain will require more money than before. This is due to new regulations from the British government.

New immigration rules introduced in Britain

Several new immigration rules have been introduced in Britain, which will change the rules and regulations for everything from employment to education. The government has introduced new regulations in the British Parliament, which will come into effect next year. These rules will impact foreign students and workers. For example, for skilled visas, foreign workers will now be required to take an English test called the ‘Secure English Language Test’. Visas will be granted based on the score. This test will be conducted by the British Home Office itself.

Increased cost of studying in Britain?

The cost of studying in the UK will increase from the next academic year. Starting in January, international students will be required to provide proof of increased savings to study. Students attending a London university will need to prove they have £1,529 (approximately Rs 1.80 lakh) to cover their monthly expenses. Previously, this amount was £1,483 (approximately Rs 1.75 lakh). Similarly, students studying in cities other than London will need to prove they have £1,171 (Rs 1.38 lakh) in monthly savings.

Post-Study work visa duration reduced

Not only this, but the duration of the Graduate Route Visa, which allows students in the UK to work and find a job after completing their degree, has also been reduced. From January 1, 2027, students will only be granted a Graduate Route Visa for 18 months, down from two years previously. However, if someone pursues a PhD, they will be allowed to work for three years. This remains unchanged. The Graduate Route visa is the primary reason why most Indians used to study in the UK.
