The largest board for school education in the country – Central Borad of Secondary Education (CBSE) is all set to present new reforms under the Digital India initiative. The first leg of the reforms have already started with the launch of Online Information System (OASIS) for all the CBSE affiliated schools. CBSE had previously ordered schools to disclose important information like fees and facilities. As they move towards a paper less governance and management, the Chairman  – Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi in a recent event was quoted talking about OASIS. Speaking at Shanti Niketan Vidyapeeth on the occasion of launch of a four-day CBSE North Zone Badminton Championship 2016, Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi further explained various schemes of CBSE, both implemented and under consideration. Also Read - CBSE Board Exams 2022: CBSE Makes Important Announcement For Private Candidates. In his speech, the Chairman mentioned that CBSE is working towards becoming a registrar, wherein the registrations of students might start from Class I itself. As such, it is all set to become the largest data-bank in the country of students. The registration number assigned to the students would continue and in case of change of schools, the students would only be required to change the code of the school. Further, the data captured would be used till class 10 and 12th Board Examination. After the making Class X Board Exams compulsory from 2018 and the use of Aadhaar Card in the JEE Mains registration, this could be the next big change. A slew of other suggestions regarding the digitization of the education system were also mentioned in the speech. The Chairman hinted that moving forth, the marks of Class 10 and 12 Board Examination might also be included in determining the child’s rank in various competitive examinations like the JEE Mains, NEET UG and so on. The changes suggested are being suggested after careful consideration of the practices being followed by affiliated schools. It was noted that many schools follow their own curriculums after affiliations, introducing expensive books. Such arbitrary management of the curriculum is a matter of concern for many and registrations from a primary class is proposed to help manage this aspect. Here are the key reforms suggested (some also implemented under OASIS):

  • Making Aadhar Card mandatory for Class 10 and Class 12 Board Examinations
  • One registration number and data point to centralize the process and eliminate changes at school level
  • Assigning Examination Centers only at the schools which comply with the requirement of CCTVs
  • Mandatory requirement of Parent Signature in Examination Registration Forms to ensure no Change of Name
  • Scanning of CBSE Admit Cards at the examination centers of all competitive examinations like JEE, NET, NEET, etc.
  • Introduction of Digital Locker to facilitate easy access to document online

All these reforms are tended towards unifying the system and making it transparent to all stake holders – especially students.
