New Delhi: Delhi University is planning to introduce exam-based admissions from the coming year (2019-20), for all its undergraduate courses. The class 12th scores, that are currently the sole basis for bagging a seat in a DU college, would not be completely done away with as the varsity will give fixed weightage to them in the admission process.

However, the varsity has not confirmed the details regarding the entrance-based system yet.

“The admission committee is going to take up the matter of entrance exams with regard to the admission process of 2019-20. The committee is an independent panel that hs education experts, college principals and faculty as members,” a TOI report quoted DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi as saying.

It is to be noted here that the university wanted to implement the entrance-based system last academic session itself, but could not do so due to various technicalities relating to the exam conducting process. Another reason that led to deferment of the plan was, no consensus amongst faculty members of the committee.

As of now, DU conduct admissions to a majority of its UG courses based on the student’s 12th scores in their best four subjects.
