Jan. 17, 2017, Lucknow: The Election Commission on Monday gave nod to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Secondary Education Department to conduct the Class 12 and 10 Boards from March 16. The initial date sheet released by UP Secondary Education Department had listed for the exams to commence from March 1. However, the Election Commission had immediately asked the board to retract the examination dates. The reason for the same was the Assembly Polls in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Following the same, the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad or the Secondary Education Board had sent a tentative schedule for examinations. EC has given its nod for the March 16 exam date. Accordingly, Class 10 and 12 Boards for UP State would begin from March 16.
The delay in the examinations were done due to the Assembly Polls that end in the state of Uttar Pradesh from March 8. Uttar Pradesh is the largest state that goes to polls this February and March. The UP Board of Seconday Education had released a time table earlier. At the time, the dates of the polls were not even finalized. As such, the EC had asked the UP Board to cancel the released date sheet. The tentative plan to start the examinations from March 16, however, was approved by Election Commission on Monday. Subsequently, the UP Board would release its revised time table for the Class 10 and 12 Board examinations for March 2017.
