A 19-year-old student allegedly burned herself to death on Monday morning on the premises of a government girls’ college at Sector 14 of Gurgaon. The girl was apparently upset with the fact that her principal refused to permit the students to go for a review of the answer sheets. Also Read - Inspiring! The girl identified as Pinki Chauhan, a second year student with Mathematics Honours; survived with 85 per cent burn injuries. The college campus is in utter pandemonium since Saturday after the university published results of the first and second year exams. With the spread of the news, students came out in large numbers and got into a heated argument with the police. They even vandalized the principal’s office and broke windows. Later on they carried out a protest on the M.G. Road for more than seven hours.
“On the district administration’s call, the university has transferred the college principal after strong demands from the students. We have also asked the university controller of examination to come to the city for the rechecking of the answer sheets. The rechecking would start after the Durga Puja festival,” says Pushpendra Chauhan, additional deputy commissioner of Gurgaon.
