Bigg Boss is the Indian version of the highly popular Dutch reality show ‘Big Brother’ which was developed by John de Mol. The format of the show is based on a number of contestants or ‘housemates’ are confined in a purpose-built house for about three months and how they cope up with each other in different situations. The house is well-furnished and decorated and has all the modern amenities but has no connection with the outside world – no TV, no Internet and no phone. Contestants do not have clocks, pen or paper too.
Each week, housemates nominate two of their peers for eviction. Housemates who receive most nominations face public vote process. One who receives least vote by the public is evicted from the House.
‘Bigg Boss’ – the unseen entity known only by his voice – calls all the shots in the House. He assigns tasks, reprimands contestants and may dole out punishments for breaking rules or not following his instructions.

The first season of the reality show was aired on Sony TV. Since Season 2, it is being aired on Colors TV.
