IIMs, IITs loosing recruiters? Flipkart decides not to hire from top Institutes

IIT and IIMs are one of the most popular institutes for hiring students. Flipkart will not be going to IIM & IIT campuses in upcoming placement season.

IIT and IIMs the most prominent institutes for hiring students by the start ups and multinational  has issued statements barring the startups to hire in 2016-17 after the start-ups were unable to fulfill their commitments  to recruit the students. This step was taken as certain startups like Flipkart had deferred the hiring from IITs and IIMs. Some start ups were unable to fulfill their commitments to absorb the alumni in the given time. To ensure that the alumni  did not lose their job, the start ups were asked to fulfill their commitments.

However, from the year 2017,  Flipkart will not be going  to IIM & IIT campuses in upcoming placement season. Apparently the decision has been taken as there are many students who have been recruited but not yet given a joining date. Flipkart has been hiring about 200-250 students together from IITs and IIMs each year. Nitin Seth, the chief administrative officer of Flipkart in an interview to Economic Times said that the students who have interned with them  will be given the pre-placement offer. He also clarified that there was deferred joining of about 250-odd students from IITs and IIMs.

Currently, Flipkart hires 200-250 students together from IITs and IIMs each year.  This year, the placements at IITs will commence from December 1 while the placements at IIMs will commence from early next year. According to a report in Economic Times, IIT-Kharagpur will also not reach out to Flipkart for hiring this year. Flipkart has a strong alumni base at Flipkart and their hiring need is not favoring freshers this year. For hiring the aspirants, The Placement Office (nodal point for placements at IITB) or the Placement Cell (a body of student representatives) sends invitations to companies/organizations along with relevant information. Logins are created for companies interested in recruiting at http://placements.iitb.ac.in to access their online account Company/Organization fills in a JAF (Job Announcement Form) containing details of the job offer (pay package, place of posting, allowances and other bonuses) using their online account. JAFs can also be sent either by post or email to Placement Cell/ Office, IIT Bombay (placementcell@iitb.ac.in/ placement@iitb.ac.in). The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has barred as many as eight start-ups from taking part in their campus recruitment drives after they backed out of job offers.  This year IIM Calcutta has wraps summer placements with top stipend of Rs 4.5 lakh per month. IIT Bombay graduates and postgraduates have been selected by leading national and multinational corporations and research institutes. The company/ organization is required to furnish the final list of students preferably on the date of interview. The placement office records jobs corresponding to the students selected. Students once placed may not be allowed to appear for other interviews as per the institute placement policy. The PSUs registered at IITs have opted for slots in the second phase of recruiting in January. Aditya Birla Group was the biggest recruiter in this domain with the highest number of offers.
