New Delhi, Jan 16: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has reportedly sent a bizarre e-mail to students residing at of one of its hostels asking them to use separate plates to eat non-vegetarian food inside the mess. The e-mail dated January 12 was sent by the administration of hostel 11 of IIT-Bombay after several vegetarian students raised objections about it.
“I am getting complaints from many students who want students who eat non-vegetarian food to use separate plates. Therefore, this is a request to all non-veg eaters, so please only use the tray type plates meant especially for non-veg dishes during dinner. Please do not use the main plates for non-veg dishes,” the email read.
However, the administration clarified its stand and said that the email was only sent to reiterate a rule a rule which was already in place and insisted that it was not meant to offend anyone.
Talking to Mid-day, Ritika Verma, general secretary of hostel eleven’s student council, said, “This is not a new rule. It is just a reiteration of a regulation that has existed for many years at all the hostels on IIT-B campus. There have always been separate plates for non-vegetarian food. Yet, a few students were seen eating non-vegetarian food in regular plates.”
