IIT-JEE success story: The IIT-JEE is arguably one of the toughest entrance examinations in India with only the best of academic minds able to clear it and secure admission into any of the country’s 23 premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). One such academic genius is Sarvesh Mehtani, a Chandigarh boy who topped JEE (Advanced) in 2017, scoring 339 marks, and achieving the coveted 1st rank (AIR 1).
Born and raised in Chandigarh, Sarvesh Mehtani’s father, Parvesh Mehtanu, is an officer in the Income Tax department, while his mother, Raj Bala, works in Haryana’s industrial training department.
Since his early school years, Sarvesh Mehtani excelled in academics, securing a perfect CGPA of 10 in Class 10th, and an impressive 95.4% marks in his Class 12th board exams.
After finishing his schooling, Sarvesh began his preparations to clear the IIT-JEE, with a clear goal of placing in the top 10 to earn his way into a prestigious IIT. According to his parents, Sarvesh never found studies cumbersome and even during his school days, had formed the habit of revising his syllabus before going to bed.
In an interview, Sarvesh Mehtani revealed that he used to unwind by engaging in leisure activities, such as listening to music, watching cartoons, or playing badminton. The boy’s father said his son had set a self-goal of ranking in the top 10 in JEE exams, and worked tirelessly to that end.
Sarvesh Mehtani studied for 5-6 hours on school days, and 8-10 hours on holidays, as he prepared for the tough exam. Ultimately, his hard work and dedication paid off when he emerged as the topper in JEE (Advanced) in 2017, securing the coveted All India Rank (AIR) 1.
After acing IIT-JEE, Sarvesh Mehtani earned his way into the prestigious IIT-Bombay where he completed his B.Tech degree in Computer Science in 2021.
