Kota, June 15: Karan, an 18-year-old student committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Kota on Thursday morning. He was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The matter came into light yesterday night.
Reportedly, on Thursday morning, Karan was talking to his father who was 670 km away in Barmer. During the conversation, Karan got up and hung himself from a ceiling fan.
Karan was staying as a paying guest. His father immediately called up the landlord, who rushed to check on Karan. He had to break the door to get into Karan’ room. The landlord brought Karan downstairs, and informed the local police. Karan was taken to a government hospital where the staff declared him brought dead. Karan, an aspiring doctor, did not leave behind any suicide note.
In another incident on June 5, a medical aspirant, who could not bear the ignominy of a bad report card, allegedly jumped to death from the top floor of a commercial complex here. The 17-year-old girl was apparently depressed over not being able to “perform well” in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test. The girl went to the 10th floor and jumped off the building, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) P Viswa Prasad told PTI.
Meanwhile, this year almost 14 lakh students appeared for NEET 2018 examination which was held by the CBSE on May 6. Central Board of Education exam (CBSE), the exam conducting body conducted NEET in Hindi, English, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
