Luis Suarez has returned to his home country Uruguay after being thrown out of the FIFA World Cup and banned from soccer for four months for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini in the final group match and Uruguay Italy out of the tournament with a 1-0 victory. President Jose Mujica met Suarez at the airport to show his unwavering support to the Liverpool striker. Earlier, hundreds of Uruguay fans had gathered at the airport but they cleared out before Suarez landed there near dawn. FIFA has suspended the 27-year old striker from fearing the next nine matches Uruguay is going to play in the World Cup and from all other soccer-related activities for next four months – the longest ban ever imposed in a World Cup. It means that Suarez will not be able to participate in the competitive matches for Uruguay until 2016 now and will miss the first two months of the Premier League season going to be held in England too. It is the third time Suarez has been banned for biting.

Chiellini who Suarez had bitten, said that he is not angry with Uruguayan. “I can only think of how difficult a period it is for him and his family. What happened on the pitch is already done with. The ban is excessive”, he said.

Former Argentine star Diego Maradona also believes that FIFA has over-reacted and slammed ban as ‘criminal’. Suarez and Maradona both have risen from a poor background to be a football superstar and earn global fame.
