Cracking the IIT-JEE is no small feat. It’s one of the toughest entrance exams in India—and even the world. Every year, thousands of students dream of getting into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), but only a small percentage make it through the intense process of JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Among those few was Sarvesh Mehtani, who made headlines in 2017 by securing All India Rank 1 in JEE Advanced with an impressive 339 marks.
Sarvesh comes from Chandigarh and later pursued Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, graduating in 2021. Today, he’s working as a Quantitative Trader, applying his sharp analytical skills in the finance world.
His father, Parvesh Mehtani, who works in the Income Tax department, shared that Sarvesh always aimed high. Breaking into the top 10 of the JEE Advanced was a dream he worked hard to achieve. His mother, Raj Bala, an official in the Haryana government’s industrial training department, recalled how dedicated he was to his studies. He never treated learning as a burden and made it a habit to revise what he was taught in class every day before going to bed.
Despite the pressure of preparing for such a tough exam, Sarvesh made sure to take breaks and unwind. He enjoyed playing badminton, listening to music, and watching his favorite cartoons on TV.
A bright student from the start, he scored an impressive 95.4 per cent in his Class 12 board exams and had a perfect 10 CGPA in Class 10.
When it came to preparing for JEE Advanced 2017, Sarvesh followed a well-planned study routine. On regular school days, he would dedicate around 5 to 6 hours to focused study. But on weekends or holidays, his study time would stretch up to 8 to 10 hours. All his dedication paid off when he scored 339 out of 366 marks, securing All India Rank 1 in one of the toughest entrance exams in the country.
Following his success, Sarvesh joined IIT Bombay, where he pursued B.Tech in Computer Science, a dream course at a dream institute for many. But his journey didn’t stop there. With a drive to keep learning and exploring, Sarvesh stepped into the world of finance. He is currently working as a Quantitative Trader, where he designs high-frequency strategies to trade financial derivatives.
His story continues to inspire thousands of aspirants across India who dream of making it to the IITs.
