Devotees continued to take holy dip at Triveni Sangam on the third day of the 45-day-long Maha Kumbh that began on January 13. Over 50 million devotees have taken holy dip on the first two days of what is considered to be the biggest gathering of human beings on the planet.Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. The next key bathing dates include January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, announced the creation of a new district for the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj. The decision, made in December 2024, led to the formation of the Maha Kumbh Mela district. This move aims to enhance the management and administration of the Kumbh Mela, ensuring seamless operations for the grand religious event scheduled for January this year.
The newly established Maha Kumbh Mela district will function for a period of four months, from December 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, covering 67 villages across four tehsils. IAS officer Vijay Kiran Anand has been appointed as the District Magistrate (DM) to oversee the administration of the district during this period.
Vijay Kiran Anand is a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer recognized for his strong governance and administrative capabilities. Born in 1979 in Karnataka, he belongs to the Uttar Pradesh cadre. With a background as a Chartered Accountant (CA), he cleared the UPSC examination in 2008, marking the start of his successful career in public service. He reportedly achieved an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 32 in the UPSC Civil Services (Main) Examination 2008.
Vijay Kiran Anand began his career with training at the esteemed Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. Throughout his career, he has held significant roles, serving as the District Magistrate in various districts such as Mainpuri, Unnao, Firozabad, Bijnor, Shahjahanpur, and Varanasi. His diverse experience in public administration has contributed to his reputation as an effective and dedicated officer.
This is not Vijay Kiran Anand’s first experience with the Kumbh Mela. He served as the Mela Officer for the Kumbh Mela between 2017 and 2019, gaining significant expertise in its organization. He has also held key positions in departments such as Panchayati Raj, Irrigation, and Basic Education.
