NEET Success Story: Mazin Mansoor, a young man from Darbhanga, Bihar, has secured the coveted All India Rank (AIR) 1 in the revised in NEET UG 2024 results by scoring a perfect 720 out of 720 marks. 18-year-old Mazin comes from a family of doctors, with his father, grandfather, maternal uncle, aunts, and several other relatives being doctors.
Born in a family of doctors, Mazin Mansoor aspired to follow in the footsteps of his father and other relatives, from an early age. Mazin’s father is a pediatrician at a state-run hospital in Saudi Arabia, while his maternal uncle, maternal aunt, maternal grandfather and grandfather are also doctors.
Additionally, his brother is pursuing a BDS degree at the Sarjug Dental College Darbhangha and is now in his fourth year.
After clearing his Class 10th exams, Mazin Mansoor made a bold choice to shift to a school which operated under the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), even as CBSE is generally considered to be a good choice for aspirants who wish to take competitive exams.
In an interview, Mazin revealed that idea behind his choice to shift to BSEB was that it would provide him more time to prepare for NEET as the Bihar Board, unlike the CBSE, does not have any practical and assignments for Class 12th final exams. “I realized that whatever your score is in board exams does not matter in competitive exams. I changed to BSEB so I did not have to stress about submitting assignments and practical tests, which is required for every subject in CBSE class 12th,” he said.
Mazin Mansoor passed Bihar Board 2024 Class 12 exams with flying colours, scoring an impressive 87% marks, and later cleared the NEET UG exams in the same year, sharing the AIR 1 with 16 other students by obtaining 99.997129 percentile. Mazin’s AIR for counselling in the June 2024 result was 1.05, which has now improved to 1.03 after the results were revised.
Talking about his preparation for NEET UG 2024, Mazin Mansoor revealed that after class 10th, he joined a coaching institute in Bihar, and followed coaching modules and NCERT textbooks to augment his studies. “Coaching classes ended by 1 pm, after that I would go head to my room to revise what I had learnt,” the 18-year-old said.
Mazin further revealed that he solved mock tests, prioritizing Biology first, then Chemistry and finally Physics. However, he later realized that his strategy was not working, which made him change his approach by taking on Chemistry first, then Biology and lastly Physics.
