Satyam Kumar, a gifted boy from Bihar, made headlines in 2013 when he passed the IIT-JEE exam at the age of just 13. This exam is considered one of the toughest in India, and clearing it at such a young age was a remarkable achievement. Satyam became the youngest Indian to crack the IIT-JEE, earning him nationwide recognition. Hailing from Bhojpur district in Bihar, Satyam is the son of a farmer. To prepare for IIT-JEE, he moved to Kota, Rajasthan, a city famous for its coaching centers. He wasn’t just academically brilliant but also highly ambitious. Satyam once shared that he aspired to create something as revolutionary as Facebook.
Born in a farming family on July 20, 1999, in Bakhorapur, a tiny village in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, Satyam Kumar showcased his academic brilliance since his formative years. He first appeared for the IIT-JEE exam in 2011 at the age of 12, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 8137. However, he wasn’t satisfied and tried again in 2012, achieving a much-improved rank of 679. His determination and sharp intellect were evident through his rapid progress.
After clearing the IIT-JEE, Satyam pursued a dual degree (BTech-MTech) in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. By the age of 24, he had also completed a PhD from the US.
As of October 2024, Satyam Kumar is working as a Machine Learning Systems Research Engineer at Texas Instruments, a renowned technology company. Before joining Texas Instruments, he spent five years as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Texas, Austin. In 2023, he also worked as a Machine Learning Intern at Apple for a few months, gaining valuable industry experience.
Satyam is the youngest IITian in India. The previous record was held by Sahal Kaushik, who achieved this feat at 14.
Satyam’s journey is a powerful reminder that age or family background does not define success. Coming from a farmer’s family in Bihar, he proved that with hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge, anything is possible.
