They say, “success comes to those who never give up,” Dr. Tanu Jain’s story is a true example of how persistence leads to success. She made a bold decision to leave her career as a dentist and follow her dream of becoming an IAS officer. Through hard work and determination, she overcame many challenges to achieve her goal of serving the nation. Let’s take a closer look at her inspiring journey.
Hailing from Sadar, Delhi, Dr. Tanu Jain completed her schooling at Cambridge School before earning a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Subharti Medical College. It was during her graduation that she developed an interest in civil services. Balancing her medical studies with UPSC preparation, she set out on a challenging yet fulfilling path.
Her journey to becoming an IAS officer was not without hurdles. In her first attempt, she managed to clear the UPSC prelims with just two months of preparation, but she couldn’t pass the mains. However, she did not lose hope. With persistence and dedication, she secured an All India Rank of 648 in her third attempt in 2014, eventually achieving her goal.
Following her success, Dr. Tanu Jain dedicated herself to social initiatives, motivational speaking, and writing. Her insights and experiences have garnered immense appreciation, and she has amassed a following of over 940K on Instagram, where she continues to inspire aspirants and young minds.
Dr. Tanu Jain found a new passion for teaching when she became a UPSC trainer. She started her own coaching institute to offer high-quality guidance to students from all walks of life. Combining her medical background with civil services training, she focuses on holistic development, critical thinking, and practical applications of what students learn.
Her classes are interactive, encouraging students to actively participate. Tanu believes that learning should be a two-way process, where knowledge is not just shared, but also discussed and understood.
Explaining her choice, she said, “My work in civil services was fulfilling, but after years of dedicated service, I realized the immense challenges aspirants face in UPSC preparation. Having experienced those struggles firsthand, I wanted to guide and mentor them in a more direct way.”
With her husband also serving in the civil services, she found the strength to embrace this new chapter of her life.
