Sonal, born in Panipat, completed her schooling in Delhi. After completing Class 12th, she graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. She also earned a Company Secretary (CS) degree from ICSI, New Delhi, which strengthened her expertise in Finance and Commerce. It is reported that Sonal was initially unaware of the UPSC civil services exam. Her interest in pursuing a civil services career was sparked after reading an article about a civil servant in a magazine.

With a strong determination to succeed, Sonal took the initiative to prepare for the UPSC exam while simultaneously pursuing an LLB course at Delhi University. She further showcased her academic excellence by completing her L.L.M. at Kurukshetra University, deepening her expertise in jurisprudence. Prior to that, she earned her L.L.B. from Delhi University. Additionally, Sonal holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from IGNOU, blending a solid foundation in administration, law, and policymaking.

In 2006, Sonal appeared for the UPSC exam for the first time but did not succeed. Undeterred, she put in even more effort and took the exam again in 2007. This time, her hard work paid off as she secured All India Rank 13, becoming an IAS officer. Sonal Goel’s story is a testament to perseverance, hard work, and dedication, demonstrating that success is possible with determination, even when faced with setbacks.
