Who Is Soumya Sambasivan?

Soumya was born in Kerala. Her father was in the Indian Army and that was the reason she completed her preliminary studies from various schools. Talking about her education, Soumya completed her graduation in Biotechnology. Then she earned her PGDBA in Marketing and Finance. After completing her studies, Sambasivan worked an investment banker for three years.

Investment Banker To IPS

When Soumya was working in the corporate bank, she used to get bored easily. After some time, she realised that she was not meant for that job. After several hours of brainstorming, Soumya decided to become a civil servant and started her UPSC preparation.

Her effort paid off, and she became an IPS officer. During her career, she worked in several departments, including 3rd IRB (India Reserve Battalion) and CID. She also has the title of first female IPS officer of Shimla. Her videos became viral on the internet, in which she can be seen training young women from the Sirmaur district in self-protection.

Solved Several Cases

Sambasivan, during her career, solved several criminal cases. Impressed with her work and dedication, senior officials nominated for the President’s Medal.

Slapped An MLA

Soumya Sambasivam did an impressive job in curbing drugs, liquor and human trafficking. In 2006, when she was performing her job, an MLA intervened. She told him to move away, but he refused. Several media reported that Soumya Sambasivam had slapped the MLA for obstructing police from doing their duty.
