At least 1 lakh seats are available for over 1.43 lakh aspirants for the third round of allotment. This announcement comes after HC directed minority junior colleges to surrender vacant in-house quota seats for CAP rounds. Following this announcement, the education department delayed the announcement of the third merit list.
This would now open up avenues for candidates in some of the sought-after colleges that had not released a second merit list.
The HC is hearing a plea by city-based Stree Shikshan Prasarak Mandal. The plea was converted into a PIL and the court banned minority colleges from surrendering quota seats for students from the general category.
Suvarna Kharat, joint secretary, education department said, “Till the end of CAP rounds, minority quota admissions will continue at the college level. Once the CAP is completed, colleges can surrender seats for students from the general category. We are undecided on how the seats will be allotted to students. We may consider a special round provided the court permits us.”
