No Ban on Non-Vegetarian Food in Campus, Clarifies IIT-Bombay

Earlier, a circular was released reading that non-veg is banned in the cafeteria.

Mumbai, Feb 4: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on Sunday clarified the reports that claimed ban on non-vegetarian food items in the campus. A statement issued from the institute PRO read, “A letter was issued to the caterer of a cafeteria atop Civil Engineering Dept. for purely health & safety reasons as he was serving stale food.”

The institute hit the headlines after reports were published that it has banned non-vegetarian food in the cafeteria. The circular was released by the institute authorities telling students and mess authorities that non-vegetarian food is strictly banned and such items should also not be served in the cafeteria.

Apart from the non-veg food ban, the institute also instructed students not to indulge in unwanted parties and other gatherings in the cafeteria space in late evenings.

Earlier, the institute had instructed the students to use separate plates for non-vegetarian food in the hostel mess of IIT-Bombay.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous public institutes of higher education, located in India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which has declared them as institutions of national importance alongside National Institutes of Technology and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance etc.
