Pune, Mar 4: Scores of girl students have alleged that staffers of MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul Higher Secondary School have strip-searched them on the pretext of preventing them from carrying chits to the HSC exam center.
Girls are among the total 219 students of Prithviraj Kapoor Memorial Junior College who are giving their Class XII board exams at this new center in Loni Kalbhor. They have made an allegation that they were subjected to the strip searches before all three HSC papers held till now.
Parents of the students have lodged a complaint against MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul School at Loni Kalbhor police station, alleging that female security officers at the latter had been checking them in this manner since the HSC exam began on February 21.
Police have booked two female staffers under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.
However, the institute has denied the allegation and said that girls were only checked. Nobody asked them to remove their clothes. This is the first time MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul School has become an exam center for the boards. Besides the Prithviraj Kapoor Memorial Junior College students, 32 students from MIT and eight were from Angel’s Junior College are also giving their exams here, taking the total number of scholars to 259.
Meanwhile, officials of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) also denied such incidents had taken place. An inquiry has been instituted in the matter.
