Jaipur, June 12: Rajasthan Education Department has issued a list of co-curricular activities for schools of the state. The seemingly innocuous list also mentions, among other things, sermons from saints on every third Saturday, said ANI. While more details are awaited on the choice of saints for the same, the decision is likely to raise the hackles of many groups in the state, including the Opposition. The idea also appears ludicrous in the light of so many godmen and sadhus being held on rape charges; the prominent ones among them being Ram Rahim Insaan of Dera Sachcha Sauda and Asaram.
The state government hasn’t done too well for itself anyway. Earlier this year, it had faced flak over a reported circular. Reports said that the Vasundhara Raje government had issued a circular through the state Education Department. The circular reportedly directed all the government schools to not only distribute a booklet, containing achievements of the government, among their students but also insisted that the schools teach the students from it.
The Education Minister Vasudev Devnani later came out with a statement and clarified that no circular of any kind had been issued by the Vasundhara Raje government directing the government schools to teach the contents of a particular booklet. “No such circular has been issued” by the state government, the Minister stated.
