New Delhi, Mar 27: The Indian Railways is on a hiring spree.  The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) had invited applications for 89,409 posts last month and now that the closing dates are near, it is best for those who still haven’t filled the application forms yet to hurry up and apply. The closing date for the application which was earlier March 12 was extended to March 31, 2018. The eligibility criteria were also relaxed with 10th pass candidates also being eligible for the Group D post for which earlier, Industrial Training Certificate (ITI) pass was compulsory. Apart from the relaxation in the educational qualification, all the candidates were allowed to sign the application form in any language of their choice, other than English or Hindi. Moreover, the upper-age limit was also relaxed with the revised age for the unreserved category being 30 years. Earlier, the age limit was 28 years. For OBCs, it has been revised to 33 years from the earlier 31 years and for the SC and ST category, the revised upper-age limit is 35 years as against the earlier 33 years. RRB had issued two advertisements in the month of February this year. One was CEN No. 1/2018 and CEN No. 2/2018.  Vacancies in advertisement CEN No. 1/2018, which was for the posts of Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician, will be filled in two stages- First stage Computer Based Test (CBT) and Second Stage CBT that’ll be common for ALP and Technician. Vacancies in the second advertisement for posts such as Helper (Electrical, Bridge, Civil, P Way, Track Machine, Works, Mechanical, S and T, Signal, Telecommunication, Medical), Track Maintainer Grade IV, Hospital Attendant, Assistant Pointsman, Gateman, and Porter/ Hamal/ Sweeper cum Porter, will be filled through a CBT. Those who clear the CBT round will then have to undergo a Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
