New Delhi, Aug 17: The Kerala Education Department has declared a holiday for all the schools, anganwadis and professional colleges across the state for Onam festival. The educational institutions will be closed on Friday (August 17) and are set to reopen on August 29 as district administrations of Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Kottayam, Kollam and Malappuram have officially announced the holiday. The Onam examinations scheduled for August 31 was postponed by the state’s Education Department in an announcement on Thursday. Schools and colleges in Kasaragod, at Vellarikundu taluk also have a holiday on Friday. Moreover, the holiday is applicable to all the schools in the district that are acting as relief camps. Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has postponed the exams scheduled for Friday and Saturday (August 17 and August 18). The Onam holidays were scheduled to begin on August 20. However, Calicut University, which has postponed all the exams till August 31, is set to reopen on August 28. All the theory exams scheduled for August 17 (Friday) were postponed by the Kerala University of Health Sciences and the revised dates will be announced later. The university, however, made no changes to the timetable prepared for the practical examinations. The examinations at Kerala Agriculture University & Farming System Research Station at Sadanandapuram for researchers and technical assistant were postponed. The exams were initially fixed to be held on August 20 and 21. The admission process which was scheduled on August 18 was postponed by Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur. Similarly, the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur and the Mahatma Gandhi University have cancelled all the examinations that were scheduled for Friday.

New Dates will be announced after the student union election in colleges affiliated to the MG University was postponed. Similarly, the Kerala Public Service Commission has announced its decision to not conduct any departmental examinations, interviews and certificate scrutiny that were earlier scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday.
