A former student who once roamed the halls of the college has chosen to give back in a significant way through a remarkable financial contribution. In an inspiring act of generosity, Jitendra Mohan and Swapna Samant, a power couple and proud alumni of IIT Bombay, have made a remarkable donation of Rs 95 crore ($11 million) to their alma mater. Mohan, who graduated in 1994 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and Samant, a 1995 Civil Engineering graduate, contributed this generous amount to support IIT Bombay’s mission of advancing education and fostering innovation.

As per a report by News24, IIT Bombay stated that the generous donation will propel the institute toward becoming a leader in semiconductor technology, a field in which Jitendra Mohan has excelled significantly. Additionally, the couple’s contribution will help establish the Vidya Sharma Chair Professorship in Electrical Engineering, aimed at empowering and supporting women faculty members in STEM fields.
In a press release, IIT Bombay announced that the donation will play a significant role in advancing several initiatives tied to the institute’s vision for growth and excellence. The statement reads, “A significant portion of the funds will bolster the institute’s leadership in semiconductor technology through SemiX Research, a cutting-edge initiative poised to fuel innovation, industrial growth, and India’s emergence as a global leader in the field.”
Jitendra Mohan and Swapna Samant shared that their decision to contribute to IIT Bombay stems from the profound impact the institution had on their lives, shaping their journey and providing a strong foundation for their future achievements.

Swapna Samant completed her B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1995. While details about her current profession remain unclear, her husband, Jitendra Mohan, has an impressive career in the tech industry.
Jitendra graduated from IIT Bombay in 1994 with a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and went on to pursue an MSEE in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University from 1994 to 1996.
