The Civil Services Examination(CSE) is one of the most challenging exams in India. The exam is held in three phases: prelims, mains, and a personality test. Some candidates start their UPSC preparation with a well-defined plan, access to suitable materials, and the support of experienced teachers. For others, their path starts in uncertainty with limited material and several obstacles to overcome. However, the one common element in all of these candidates is that they all aspire to take one of the hardest examinations in India, and their ultimate goal is to be able to serve in the government of India.

UPSC preparation is not simply about reading books or memorising those books, but rather is a lengthy, mentally demanding experience that tests an individual’s level of patience, discipline, and self-confidence. Candidates often spend years juggling their studies, the stress of maintaining financially, the pressure from their families, and their own lack of self-confidence. Daily activities during their preparation will typically include early mornings, late nights, several times of failures, and constant self-evaluation.

At 22 years of age, Sulochana Meena from a rural part of Rajasthan, achieved her goal of joining the IAS on her first attempt. She made her father proud by being one of India’s youngest IAS officers due to her dedication and commitment. Sulochana is from the village of Adalwada, located in the Sawai Madhopur District of Rajasthan. She took the United Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination of 2021, receiving an all-India ranking of 415. She belonged to the ST category.

She performed well on her written exam with a score of 762 and a score of 171 in the personality test. Overall, she scored 933 marks. She completed her schooling in her hometown before moving to Delhi, India’s capital, for her higher education. Later, she earned her graduation degree in botany from Delhi University.
