In today’s world, millions of people want to crack one of the country’s toughest exams, UPSC, to become an IAS or IPS officer. But only a handful of them get to fulfill this dream. The Civil Services Examination conducted by the UPSC is one of the most challenging competitive examinations in India. The exam is held in three stages: Prelims, Mains, and an interview. The exam recruits candidates for higher Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. In this article, we will discuss the inspirational story of IAS Officer Prateek Jain, who cleared the UPSC at just 25 years old.
Prateek Jain currently serves as the District Magistrate (DM) of Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand. He was born on July 25, 1993, in Ajmer, Rajasthan. He is an IAS officer from the 2018 batch.
Speaking about his educational qualifications, Prateek Jain studied B.E.(Hons) Mechanical, MSc(Hons) Biological Sciences at BITS Pilani. Furthermore, he earned his master’s degree in Public Management from Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) in 2020. Prateek sat for the UPSC Civil Services Examination for the first time in 2016 and passed Prelims and Mains, but he did not qualify for final selection.
Later in the same year, Prateek achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 3 in the IFoS (Indian Forest Service) examination, although he ultimately aspired to become an IAS officer. He was dedicated to his mission to become an IAS officer and attempted the UPSC examination once again in 2017, where he secured an All India Rank(AIR) of 86 and was appointed as an IAS officer at the age of 25.
Prateek began his career as the Chief Development Officer(CDO) in Haridwar before transitioning to the Deputy Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate position in Nainital. At present, he has been appointed as the DM of Rudraprayag.
