New Delhi, April 5: The registration for University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) closes today, that is, April 5. NET aspirants still have a day to register for the examination and may do so by applying on the official website- The registration for the CBSE UGC NET commenced on March 6 and the last date to apply for it is April 5. However, the fees for the examination may be submitted by April 6. The examination will be held on July 8 across the country in 91 selected cities.

Steps for UGC NET 2018 Registration:

  1. Visit the official website –
  2. On the home page, click on the link, Apply For- NET July 2018 given at the bottom of the page.
  3. Then click on Apply for July- 2018.
  4. Fill in the application form.
  5. Once done, download the application form you’ve just filled and take a printout for future reference.

Aspiring candidates must also know that there are a few changes in this year’s UGC NET examination. There will two papers  instead of three in which Paper 1 will test the research aptitude, teaching ability of the candidates and the Paper 2 will test the competency of the candidate in his or her applicable subject. Paper 1 will have 50 objective questions based on general awareness, reasoning ability, comprehension and divergent thinking While Paper 2 will have 100 questions testing the candidate in their chosen subject. Both the papers will have a time duration of 1 and 2 hours respectively. While Paper 1 will be of 100 marks, Paper 2 will be of 200 marks. For those who are wondering about negative marking, you may now breathe. There is no negative marking for attempting a question wrong.

Talking about the age limit, Junior Research Fellow (JRF) has been extended by two years from 28 years to 30 years now but  the age limit for Assistant Professor remains unchanged.  The answer key for the UGC NET education will be announced in the fourth week of August.
