Lucknow, May 3: The UP Board Results for class 10 and 12 were released on April 29 but some or the other controversy keeps it in the headlines. As per a report in The Times of India, there is a discrepancy in the marks given by the examiners and the marks which have been entered on the mark sheet. The documents which have been unearthed by TOI show that there is an increase of nearly 10 to 25 marks in the mark sheets of several students who had got fewer marks in the first place.

TOI even showed the allegedly forged mark sheets.  In one instance, a student who was given just two marks in the science paper had a total  of 23 marks in the final mark sheet which was uploaded by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB). This has come as a shocker as UP Board had taken several strict measures this year to prevent cheating and the use of unfair means.

Meanwhile, teachers expressed concern over the forgery of marks and said that such incidents only destroyed a student’s career. On the other hand, a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe in the matter and termed it as ‘marks scam’. The SP MLA also alleged that this discrepancy was a doing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. He added that steps taken to prevent cheating were an eyewash as the government was working in various ways to make money out of the whole situation.

It was also alleged that the BJP government had indulged in the marks scam to either increase or bring about an improvement in the pass percentage in the overall board examinations this year. Another SP leader said that had the pass percentage fallen, people wouldn’t have favoured BJP and were less likely to bring it to power in the 2019 elections.
