The UPSC conducts the prestigious examination once a year to select bright candidates from across the county for administrative services under Central and State Governments such as Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) etc. It is also regarded as one of the toughest examinations to crack.

The officers selected through the UPSC Civil Services are placed on top of the administrative posts of the government.  The official notification for the exam was announced in February 2018. The online application submission for the UPSC Civil Services Prelims ended on March 6, 2018.

The UPSC has revised the eligibility criteria regarding the age limit of the Jammu and Kashmir domicile candidates.
