UPSC aspirants who attempt this recruitment test, usually come from a sturdy academic background, such as a very good college. But do you know which premier institute in India churns out the most IAS and IPS officers?

1. Delhi University: The Delhi University, located in the heart of the national capital, holds the distinction of producing the highest number of successful UPSC aspirants. According to various media reports, around 4,000 Delhi University (DU) students have qualified the UPSC CSE from 1975 to 2014.
2. DU Colleges: As per reports, various colleges affiliated with the DU are considered to be a prime breeding ground for future civil servants. These include Miranda House, St. Stephens, Lady Shri Ram College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, and Hindu College.
3. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU): One of the most-highly rated institutes in the country, the JNU is also known for producing a fair share of civil servants, with as many as 1,375 of the varsity’s students having cleared the UPSC CSE till 2014.
4. IIT Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), which has earned the moniker “UPSC factory” for the sheer number of its alumnus who have aced the UPSC CSE and became IAS, IPS, or IFS officers. According to media reports, over 600 IIT Kanpur students have been selected in civil services, with successful aspirants being either an alumni or having studied at the premier college for some period of time.
5. Honorable mentions: Other top institutes that have produced their fare share of successful UPSC aspirants include prestigious colleges such as IIT Delhi, Banaras University and Allahabad University.
