Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by a IAS Vishakha Yadav, a young IAS officer, when he arrived in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district for a daylong visit to the northeastern state earlier this week. Visuals of IAS Vishakha Yadav greeting PM Modi went viral on social media, raising curiosity among netizens about the young officer’s background.

Who is IAS Vishakha Yadav?

Born in Delhi in 1994, IAS Vishakha Yadav is the daughter of a police officer, Rajkumar Yadav, who is posted as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in the Delhi Police, while her mother is a homemaker.

An alumnus of the Delhi Technological University (DTU), Vishakha Yadav began her professional career with a high-paying job at Cisco in Bengaluru. However, the young woman always desired to join civil services and thus quit her job to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE).

Unlike a majority of UPSC aspirants, Vishakha  did not rely on any formal coaching and instead focused on self-study during her preparation phase. However, journey ahead filled with hurdles as Vishakha failed to clear the tough exam in her first two attempts, but her perseverance and hard work paid as she aced the test in her third attempt in 2020, securing an All-India Rank (AIR) of 6 and scoring 1,046 out of 2,025 marks.
