Manipur starts off with the final phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2014

This phase will witness a voting population of 874704 out of which 423026 are males and the remaining 446909 are females respectively.

Manipur assembly election : casting votes

Imphal, Apr. 17: After the much larger area of Outer Manipur was covered on 9th April, the Inner Manipur region is gearing up for the second and last phase of the elections in the state. This phase will witness a voting population of 874704 out of which 423026 are males and the remaining 446909 are females respectively.

The major political parties for the Inner Manipur constituency has Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress  and Communist Party India contesting with one Lok Sabha seat. There are four other registered parties and one independent.

The lone seat of Inner Manipur constituency , which was previously held by Congress for the past 10 years would be contested for by eight candidates. The sitting congress MP TH Meinya would once again fight to retain his position along with R K Rajan from BJP, S Manaobi from Trinamool Congress, senior CPI leader M. Nara and the sole female candidate O Indira who will contest independently.

There have been various precautionary measure taken all over the poling stations with 11713 security personnel including central paramilitary forced being deployed for the poll. The main reason for this is the boycott of poll by the Manipur Maoist Party.
