Assembly Election for 200 constituencies in Rajasthan took place on November 25, while the counting of votes will be held on December 3, as the tenure of the present state assembly ends in January 2024. Earlier, the Assembly Elections were slated to take place on November 23 but the Election Commission of India decided to change it as record number of weddings and social engagements are reportedly planned on the same date. November 6 was fixed as the last date for filing nominations while the last date for withdrawal of candidature was November 9.
Rajasthan is witnessing a tooth-and-nail battle between the BJP and the incumbent Congress, which is striving hard to come back again in power despite facing anti-incumbency under the leadership of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The Rajasthan CM is sparing no effort to foil the chances of rival BJP. He made a scathing remark on the BJP's Sankalp Patra (Manifesto) for the state Assembly polls saying it has no substance and the public was greatly disappointed by it.
Seeking a comeback in the desert state, BJP released its Sankalp Patra with promises, such as LPG cylinders for Rs 450 each to the Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries, 2.5 lakh government jobs in five years and increasing the financial assistance to farmers under the PM-Kisan scheme, among others.
Congress released its manifesto in the poll-bound state last month. The grand old party vowed security and better education for women and youth, besides promising free laptops and tablets to college students, education in English medium to every student, LPG cylinder for poor at Rs 500, Rs 10,000 annually to the female head of the family, and free insurance up to Rs 15 lakh for disaster victims among other points.
