Four female actors including one who was assaulted in the Kochi kidnapping and assaulting case in 2017 have tendered their resignation from Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), an association for actors working in Malayalam cinema. Irked with the decision made by the association on the reinstatement of accused Malayalam actor Dileep‘s membership, this extreme step of resignation has been taken by the four female actors. The four female actors who resigned are Remya Nambeesan, Geethu Mohandas and Rima Kallingal. The actors made their decision public through the Women in Collective Cinema (WCC) Facebook page. Earlier Senior Congress MLA, P.T. Thomas, who was the first to know about the case first got in touch with the victim’s family and then went on to inform this to the police and also mentioned that AMMA should reconsider its decision on Dileep. He said, “It is now very clear that only a handful of the artists were genuine with the victim. “Not a single one of them was supporting the victim. It’s now time for the Kerala Assembly and the state government to react,” Thomas added. AMMA-led by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal was asked on a Facebook post by WCC, “If you have decided to revoke the suspension… what has changed after he was suspended?” Ït also read, “Do you know that you have decided to take back someone who is alleged to have been involved in a rape and the trial is yet to finish… don’t you feel anything at all?” When around 385 actors of AMMA met last Sunday in Kochi, many were surprised to see when no one answered to the question on Dileep’s reinstatement.
