World War Z: Released in 2013, this Brad Pitt movie is ranked as world’s number 1 expensive horror film ever made. It has got high end VFX and CGI in play making the elements come to life. It is worth around Rs 16 billion . Reportedly, apart from the fees of the cast, set designing, CGI, VFX burned a major pocket hole.

World’s Most Expensive Horror Movies Ever Made

  1. Van Helsing: Hugh Jackman- Kate Beckinsale starrer action horror film was released in 2004. This is a like a multivers eof monsters like Frankensteins’ Monter, Mr Hyde, wearwolves etc. It is based Bram Stroker’s ‘Dracula’.It was made on a budget of 160-170 million dollars. While it was not critically well acclaimed, it was major monetary project.
  2. The Wolfman: This film is a creation of a formula monster. Released in 2010, it was initially allocated a budget of around 85 million dollars. However, due to re-shooting about look of one werewolf and adding another scene, the budget shot up to around 150 million dollars.
  3. I am Legend: This Will Smith starrer post-apocalyptic horror-thriller became one of the highest grossers in 2007 in USA. It was made on a budget of around Rs 15 crores.
  4. Prometheus: The film Prometheus released in 2012 seeks the spirals around te pretext if aliens are the ancestors of humans? Approximately 130 million dollars (11 billion rupees) were spent to bring this hair-raising story to the screen.
  5. What Lies Beneath: The film ‘What Lies Beneath’ was released in the year 2000. About 8 billion dollars were spent in shooting this film. But the audience liked the film and it also made a very good collection.
  6. Day Shift: This film was released in the year 2022.  Another big budget film in the world of horror. The makers had to spend around Rs 8 billion to make this Netflix original movie. The story of the film and its graphics were well appreciated.

VFX and CGI often raises the budget of movies. Despite the cost and dearness of using these technologies, it becomes an integral for good cinematic experience for the audience.
