Bollywood actress Vidya Balan had given her nod for Kamala Das biopic a long time ago. The actress even joined the film’s cast and shot for a day with the team. After having the script with her for nearly six long months, the actress changed her mind. Just in time when the film went on floors, Vidya fell ill and couldn’t begin shooting. After recovery she refused to give her shot with an excuse that she couldn’t connect with her character. The makers had already invested a lot of money into the project and Vidya’s sudden change of mind landed them in a huge mess.
DNA reported a source close to the development saying, “The team tried our utmost to convince her. We promised we would be there to help her. But she insisted she couldn’t understand the character. But isn’t that what Kamala Das is about? She’s an enigma. We are sure even Kamala didn’t understand herself.” (ALSO READ: Begum Jaan first still: Vidya Balan’s hauntingly real look as a brothel ‘Madam’ will BLOW your mind)
Vidya’s decision to abandon the project was quite anticipated as she behaved differently. She was apparently unhappy with the film’s script. “Vidya likes to spend some time with the director and writers as part of her prep before starting a film. It wasn’t happening with this one. Also, she wasn’t happy with the final script.,” adds the source. The spokesperson of the Bollywood actress also confirmed the news. The Bobby Jasoos actress had expressed her displeasure in an earlier interview too. She was quoted talking about the late author, “I read her autobiography, she intrigued me. I’m still wondering if she was who she’s made out to be, pretending to be her or misunderstood, hoping to get some answers at some point during the film.” (ALSO READ: Vidya Balan turns a year older today! Now Tabu has been approached with the role and she seems to be interested in playing the late enigmatic poetess-feminist on screen. The source says, “Tabu has shown a keen interest in the part and we’re in the process of finalising her. However, we wouldn’t like to say anything officially until everything is absolutely firmed in.”
