Actor Aamir Khan has once again turned the spotlight where it truly belongs. The superstar recently unveiled the trailer of Sitaaron Ke Sitaare, a documentary that traces the real-life journeys of the parents of the specially-abled actors seen in Sitaare Zameen Par. Introducing the project, Aamir described these parents as the “real stars,” setting the tone for a deeply emotional and honest film.
The trailer opens with a hard-hitting voiceover from a parent who reflects on society’s discomfort with disability. “In our country, people hide specially-abled children. If you show them on screen, who will watch it?” the voice asks. What follows is a gentle shift into warmth and humour, as parents recall their love stories, marriages, proposals and everyday moments that once defined their lives—before everything changed.

What happens when reality hits home?
As the trailer progresses, the mood turns heavier. Parents speak candidly about the moment they realised their children were differently abled, and the silent battles that followed. One parent recalls being asked not to bring their child to school anymore because other parents had objections. Another shares how doctors and teachers often spoke in ways they could barely understand, leaving them feeling lost and isolated.
The documentary does not shy away from exposing social hypocrisy. “Society, doctors, teachers—they just make you feel small,” a parent says, while another recounts being told that rituals and prayers could ‘fix’ their child. These moments underline how deeply ingrained stigma continues to shape everyday experiences.
How do hope and resilience survive?
Despite the heartbreak, Sitaaron Ke Sitaare is equally about strength. One parent sums it up poignantly: “You can’t give up hope. The day you stop, everything ends, your child’s life, your life.” The turning point arrives when parents speak about receiving a call from Aamir Khan Productions, inviting their children to be part of a film. The disbelief, joy and pride in their voices are unmistakable. “He’ll be known to everyone,” one parent says, overwhelmed by the possibility.
Why does Aamir call parents the real stars?
Interspersed with these stories are moments of warmth between Aamir and the children on set. In one light-hearted scene, he jokingly asks them to stand in a straight line, instantly easing their nerves. Reflecting on the journey, Aamir admits that no matter how much you try to remain detached, bonds form naturally. “A whole new world opens up. Anything is possible—with our children too,” he says, before concluding that the parents are the true heroes.
Sitaaron Ke Sitaare is set to release in theatres on December 19, 2025. Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna and adapted from the Spanish film Champions (2018), was released earlier on June 20, 2025. This documentary now promises to add a powerful, deeply human chapter to that story.
