Twitter has been abuzz with the gossip that the actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan has been removed as brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Everyone thought that the ministry has taken Aamir Khan’s remarks on rising intolerance in the country rather seriously. India.com spoke to the publicist of Mr Aamir Khan, and we were told that there is no such letter from the ministry regarding Incredible India. And just as people were beginning to believe the news and speculate whether it was the right thing to do or not, tweets by news agency ANI say that Aamir Khan has not been removed by the GoI from Incredible India. In fact, the contract is with the ad agency and it has been retained. But the government seems to be confused whether it wants to renew Aamir Khan’s contract for Incredible India or not, with a confusing statement by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Tourism and Culture Mahesh Sharma that said, “In response to certain news reports, about Aamir Khan, the ministry of tourism clarifies there is no change in the stand of the ministry in this matter.”Also Read - Aamir Khan Issues Apologies to KGF 2 Producers And Yash, Says 'Will Promote KGF Chapter 2

Aamir Khan has been the brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign for several years now, appearing in various ad spots and television commercials for the same. As for the background of the issue, Aamir Khan had remarked on intolerance in November 2015 at an event organised by The Indian Express. On being probed, he had said that his wife Kiran Rao was wondering if they should ‘leave the country’ along with their child Azad Rao Khan. Understandably, there was a furore in the country after these remarks by Aamir Khan. His fans and Twitterati hit out at him, and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members asked him to indeed pack his bags.

India.com had also taken a stand and wondered why Aamir Khan was so scared of the situation when it was not that alarming as it was made out to be. Why then was he quiet when terrorists struck in Jammu and Kashmir, or in Mumbai during the 26/11 terrorists attacks. (ALSO READ: Aamir Khan leaves India, spotted at international airport in Mumbai! Like we said, Aamir Khan stuck to his stand about the debate. So has the Ministry of Tourism. A contract is to be honoured, after all. (ALSO READ: Proud to be Indian, no intention of leaving country, clarifies Aamir Khan)
