Aamir Khan has reacted strongly to the remark made by Navin Tyagi of the Akhil Bharatiya Hinda Mahasabha (ABHM) that “item girls” are “prostitutes” or should be declared so. Aamir, in fact, has not really sided with the item girls of B-town, but with the unfortunate women we call prostitutes or sex workers. The PK actor has also hit out at Tyagi for having made such a comment.
Aamir made a strong point when he told India.com, “Regarding somebody calling names to item girls, I think that’s unfortunate. Even a prostitute is a human being. She has her own problems in life, her own compulsions in whatever situation she is in. It is not right for us to judge what the person is going through. Statements like these are unfortunate and perhaps insensitive.”

The man in question, Navin Tyagi, is the general secretary of the UP unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Hinda Mahasabha. This is the same man also had also objected to female students wearing jeans and skirts and carrying mobile phones, something which he feels leads to sexual assault.
Tyagi had made the seedy remark on item girls, saying, “The girls who perform item numbers in films and remove clothes should be declared prostitutes. We feel the women who earn money by indulging in obscenity are prostitutes. They are spreading filth in society.” He had even threatened to take this “issue” up to the Supreme Court of India.
Aamir Khan on his part reiterated his stand on the objectification of women in Bollywood, something which he had spoken about on his TV chat show Satyamev Jayate. He said, “I feel that as an industry we certainly need to stop and reflect about how we are portraying women. That is the need of the hour; what we need to do as creative people.”
We agree with you, Aamir. But we feel that charity begins at home, so it is you who should take the initiative!
