Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta, has captivated audiences with his remarkable debut performance in Netflix’s Maharaja. Recently, the actor opened up about losing crucial roles in Lal Singh Chaddha and Laapata Ladies. The actor discussed about the experiences, revealing how he was deemed not suitable for either of the films.
In recent chat, Junaid disclosed that he was initially considered for the role in Aamir Khan’s 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha, but ultimately couldn’t make it due to budget constraints. The actor revealed that he and Kiran Rao auditioned together for the film, where they were tested to play mother-son duo. “You would have seen me in Laal Singh Chaddha because I tested for it, along with Kiran Rao. She played my mother. We shot 7-8 scenes for the film over four days, amounting to about 20 minutes of footage. It was a test for me as well. Papa wanted to see how I dealt with the material. Ultimately, it didn’t work out, largely due to budget reasons. It was a very expensive film to put a new person in,” he shared. Despite not landing the role, the experience allowed Junaid to work closely with his father, Aamir Khan, who co-produced the Indian remake of the 1994 American classic Forrest Gump. Junaid said.
In addition to Laal Singh Chaddha, Junaid also auditioned for the lead role in Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies. He said that after his screen test, Kiran decided that Sparsh Shrivastava was a better fit for the part. He said, “Laapataa Ladies was a very different scenario. I did a screen test for the film, but Kiran just said, ‘Sparsh Shrivastava is better for the part,’ and I agree with her. He was better suited for the role.” This decision, however, did not strain his bond with Kiran, as Junaid emphasized, “Our equation is very good. She is a very fun and warm person, and we get along great.”
While Junaid was not cast in either of the films, his candid response highlighted his supportive approach toward the decisions made by Aamir and Kiran. Meanwhile, the actor is gearing up for his next project, Loveyapa, co-starring Khushi Kapoor. He will also be seen in Ek Din later this year, alongside Sai Pallavi.
