Deepika PadukoneShahid KapoorRanveer Singh starrer Padmavati, which in reality is based on the epic poem Padmavat (1520) by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, found itself amidst a lot of controversy when a fringe Rajasthan Rajput group called, Karni Sena threatened the actors and the filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Other Rajput groups too alleged the film to portray inaccurate facts, showing Rani Padmini, the Rajput Queen in bad light. While many threatened to cut Deepika’s nose, others swore to behead Bhansali. Gradually, every state authority started demanding for a ban in their respective region, forcing the producers of the film to defer the release of the film from December 1 to a later date. However, the makers of the film went ahead and conducted a special screening for a few journalists including Arnab Goswami and Rajat Sharma who watched the film and stated “responsibly” that there’s absolutely “nothing that hurts Rajput pride”.Also Read - Sportsmen And Their Alleged Bollywood Affairs: From Yuvraj-Deepika to Hardik-Parineeti | Watch Video

Both the journalists have watched the film and have given their “approval”. While Arnab called the film a clear depiction of Rajput pride, Rajat Sharma during his prime time show said, “After watching the entire film, I can emphatically say that there is not a single dialogue, not a single scene, not a single sequence that can be said to go against the proud history of the Rajputs of Rajasthan”. He further said that the film was made after thorough research. “While filming the scenes and sequences, he has kept in mind the need to respect the Rajput traditions and etiquettes. There has been no distortion of history in the entire film. I sincerely feel that the valour of Maharaja Rawal Ratan Singh, the strategic mind of Queen Padmavati, their bravery and sacrifice have been correctly portrayed in Bhansali’s film,” Sharma said. He emphatically stated that while he understands the feelings of people being hurt by the film, their anger and frustration is purely based on hearsay. “I will humbly appeal to all my Rajput brothers and sisters to watch this film at least once and then decide. They will certainly feel that this film has correctly portrayed the Rajputs in a positive light. Every child in this great country will feel proud on watching the sacrifice of Rani Padmavati and Rawal Ratan Singh. I can also say that after watching this film, people will definitely feel that they have been unfair to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and all those who have been associated with this film,” he said. Well, let’s hope that the masses now have faith in the film and allow it to release. Both Deepika and Shahid seem unaffected with all the threats and have repeatedly stated that they believe in the judicial system that no harm would be done to any of the cast and crew members. Even people from the industry are coming in support of Bhansali and his film. With Goswami and Sharma now backing the film, let’s hope that the controversy comes to an end.
