Mumbai, January 9: The controversial AIB Roast of actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh has come back to haunt the actors. Bollywood director producer Karan Johar on Saturday received summons from Mumbai Police to record his statement in connection with the event that took place in December 2013. Media reports also suggested that Kapoor and Singh as well as Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone are next in line to be summoned to record their statements.
In December 2013, stand up comedy group All India Backchod organised a roast for actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, which was based on the format of roasts, which mock celebrities. Johar was the host of the event, while majority of the contemporary Bollywood stars were in attendance. The even was jeld in Worli in Mumbai, and the videos were posted online, a month later. Following the video, social activist Santosh Daundkar approached a city court to complain against the ‘vulgar’ content of the roast. “We have summoned Karan Johar, which essentially means he will have to come to the Tardeo police station to give his statement. His statement will be an important part of the charge sheet that is yet to be submitted to the court,” an officer of the Tardeo police station was quoted as saying in a report by Hindustan Times. The officer also said that the police was in touch with the advocate who was coordinating with them. Johar, who is currently in London, was unavailable for comment, reported HT.
