It looks like the season of clashes at the box office. The last two big films that clashed were at the end of the year 2015. It was none other than ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’. But that trend has continued in 2016 yet again and will see some more in the coming months. The films that clashed in the beginning of 2016 were ‘Airlift’ and ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’. Both these films of different genres and an all together with a new concept released during the Republic Day week that is on January 22. Though it was expected which one has the chances of taking the lead, here is the details of the movie with their box office results.
The Raja Menon directed movie ‘Airlift’ starred Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in the lead roles. Akshay Kumar is already having a great impact on the audiences with the various roles he has done in the past. Also, Nimrat Kaur’s performance in ‘The Lunchbox’ film was well appreciated by the fans then. It was the first time that Akshay and Nimrat were been paired together. People were eagerly waiting to watch not just the real story of what happened during the 90s Gulf War but even the duos onscreen chemistry. The benefit of the film was the real Indian story behind the 90s Gulf War that Saddam Hussein had declared on Kuwait. And being released during Republic Day week, it was a bonus for the makers of the film. Many movie buffs rushed to the theatres on day one of its release. The first day (January 22, Friday) of film garnered Rs. 12.35 crore at the box office. The figures did not drop in the weekends and in the following days too. In fact it soared with every passing day. Across social media sites, the movie garnered praises from fans and many B-town stars too. On Republic Day January 26, Tuesday the movie managed to collect Rs. 17.80 crore making it a total of 72.50 crore in five days. On the same day a sex comedy movie was also released and that was ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’. This movie was the third instalment of the ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum’ series starring Tusshar Kapoor, Mandana Karimi and Aftab Shivdasani in the lead roles. It was expected that the movie might garner some decent amount at the box office after its past hits and also the limelight that the Iranian beauty Mandana Karimi had gained during her stay in the Bigg Boss house season 9. Her tantrums and the statement of being cornered by housemates helped her gain attention. And towards the end of the show when the legal case on her topped the headlines, with regards to her contract with Balaji Telefilms and promotional activity of ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’, it was expected that the comedy film will get lot of attention from movie fanatics. Even the above mentioned reasons did not help for the films box office collection. Though being called as the first porn-com flick of India, it miserably failed. The movie fanatics might have actually expected some unusual comedy but it was the clichéd double meaning comedy. More than comedy plot, it could be called as pure skin show. We don’t think the movie buffs are anymore interested in watching such kind of films anymore and hence the weak figures at the box office. On day one ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’ collected only Rs. 8.15 crore and its total collection in four days has become Rs. 23.15 crore. Even on Republic Day, when it was a public holiday the crazy Bollywood movie fans weren’t rushing to watch Umesh Ghadge directorial film but for ‘Airlift’. It is very clear that ‘Airlift’ has taken the lead at the box office with its outstanding figure at the box office. ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’ has terribly failed at the box office and it is difficult to expect that the movie will work great in the coming days.
