Nationalism and patriotism in India can never take a backseat. With Republic Day having been celebrated a few days ago and then the ban of Pakistani artistes working in Bollywood, there has been no better time for a patriotic film in Bollywood. and when it comes to patriotic films in Bollywood, Akshay Kumar seems to be the obvious choice after his box office blockbusters Airlift, Rustom and Baby. He has been now roped in for Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar‘s production banner Excel Entertainment to star in director Reema Kagti’s upcoming film ‘Gold’.
The movie is based on the life of India’s legendary hockey striker, captain and coach of yesteryear, Balbir Singh Sr. The period drama is about India winning the first Olympic medal as an independent country in 1948, at the 14th Olympiad in London. The actor will undergo gruelling training with professional players along with fellow cast members for his role in the film. Also joining the cast is Masaan fame Vicky Kaushal’s brother, Sunny.
A source revealed, “The cast’s training with real-life hockey players is expected to kick off in the next two weeks in Mumbai. Sunny was recently signed for the part of one of the younger players in the team and will begin prep soon.” Akshay had recently taken off to a meditation centre in Kerala to rejuvenate before he starts working on the film. And now, Akshay is reported to be wearing a ‘dhoti’ throughout the entire course of the film. Akshay is known for his different looks in different films and we are excited to see his look in ‘Gold’. The film will be releasing this Independence Day and Akshay had shared the first look of the film already. The actor’s upcoming release ‘Jolly LLB 2’, which is inspired from true events is slated to release on February 10 and will see Huma Qureshi opposite him. The film is a sequel to the Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani starrer ‘Jolly LLB’.
