Akshay Kumar starrer Gold and John Abraham Starrer Satyameva Jayate did humongously well at the box office on its day one. Both the films were released on the national holiday Independence Day and it resulted in a remarkable box office collection. Both Akshay and John’s film has recorded the highest day one collections. The combined box office collection of both the films is approximately 45 crore.

Earlier today, the film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to share the total box office collection. He wrote, “The BIG HOLIDAY [#IndependenceDay] results in BIG NUMBERS at the BO… Both, #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate have TERRIFIC Day 1… Both, Akshay and John record their HIGHEST *Day 1* biz… The *combined* total is approx ₹ 45 cr [+/-], which is HUMONGOUS… Yesss, BO is on 🔥🔥🔥”.

Gold is a historical sports drama inspired by India’s first Olympic gold medal and traces the ‘golden era’ of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a young assistant manager in 1936, who dreams of playing for an independent nation. This sports drama will take the audience back in time to witness the struggle of a team to make the nation proud.

Gold has been shot across the United Kingdom and India, capturing the fascinating aspects of the pre-independent era. Apart from Akshay and Mouni, the film also stars Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh and Sunny Kaushal. It promises power packed performances by an ensemble cast. The film has been bankrolled by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and helmed by Reema Kagti.

On the other hand, Satyameva Jayate is an action-thriller that highlights the problem of corruption and other issues prevailing in our society. In the film, John can be seen delivering strong dialogues on religion and corruption.
